My problem with the sale of these coins was the utter disregard for the collecting community, if say the recent Landon coins enter the market place and disrupts the large cent market with these beautiful coins that's collecting, someone someday might appear a 1921 5 cent roll. The BOC is a government agency after all the fees I doubt they made much more than bullion value, then the RCM allowed a famous Canadian dealer advanced preview and sale as exposed in the pcgs video while everyone else was sold one limit as is, no return sale

Sorry, one added comment if someone here a RCNA member, why didn't ICCS grade these coins as it seems they were hired to pick the coins for sale, it seems simple for the RCM have ICCS just grade all the coins for public sale.

@john100
That is something I have been curious about since becoming familiar with this topic of the gold hoard, why didn't ICCS grade them? Anyone out there have any ideas...

It was up to the individual buyer to send them for grading
after receiving them from the mint.

ICCS did end up grading over 1300 but because they use soft flips which can cause a soft metal
like gold to be easily marked, most dealers and individuals
sent them to PCGS who had special hard cases and labels made up plus they had a special on the
pricing for Gold Hoard coins.

CCCS in Montreal also graded some of these.

I agree with John100 on how the sale of these coins were handled by the BOC.

Does anyone have the breakdown of the ICCS graded coins ( x 1912 $5, x 1913 5$ etc...) I have been keeping track of how many were broken out of original case. If you can share, it would be greatly appreciated, I will post the totals to this thread.

Thanks Jimmy, are these for the Bank of Canada hoard coins or all the ones ICCS has certified?

It's the total that ICCS has certified.
They don't distinguish what was Hoard or
other issued coins.

Too bad, if someone has a 2012 population report, we could make a reasonable estimate.

Here are the numbers excluding ICCS (until 2012 gets posted) and this chart has been posted before.

While were at it, I have a bone to pick with the government over this Maple Leaf flag. I know it was done in 1965, but I haven't gotten around to complaining about it until now.

Keep in mind that on top of the ICCS numbers, many of these coins were PCGS graded. In my opinion anything more common up to MS63 will become bullion with time. Maybe even 64 for some of the $10. Even some of the higher grades are now selling at 10% trends.

$5- Total graded 2,328 (Most of these would be MS60 and up)
$10-Total graded 13,283 (same)

Here are the links for detailed breakdowns which also show the hoard numbers.

Maybe if the RCM had price the coin's at a better price they would of sold a lot more. I think the RCN thought that collector would be falling over each other to buy them, since that did not happen what to do with the rest. Can't admit they did not sell well, so spin a story like we'll melt them and say it's to help to pay down the debt that will work. I bet none of the money from the melting will go towards any debt politics all about saving face

The RCM did sell their allotment of 30000 coins from the Bank of Canada, it's the way the RCM took advantage of the ordinary collectors as I mentioned above that is the problem. If they added more coins the market will not support and any coins below ms63 or 64 in some years will become bullion value.
