Way to burst my bubble justa . First ones I've found so . You're probably right though second half of the financial year is when we see the bigger numbers hit circulation, most of the time.

We'll just leave it to the scammers on ebay that describe them as rare or scarce. Have seen a few claims to the effect already, and it's not even the end of the financial year yet Good luck with your studies, certainly pays off in the long run. You may be young, but at least you are educating yourself, coinwise as well. Will save you big $$$$ in the long run .

Even so, I would like the bank to do with 50˘ what they just did to me with 20˘ -2 x $200 bags of 2007 Armaguard rolls. I would stick them on ebay ASAP and watch with interest to see what they fetch. cheers Jeff

Thx Farnby...!! Jeff, I don't think 2007 rolls sell well at all on ebay... I don't think they get bids... Or do they?

Very nice of the bank to do that for you Jeff. If they did do it with the 50 cents for you, I would buy a roll or 2 on ebay from you. ... as long as they are not listed with the scarce or rare claims .

I do sometimes use "scarce" in a listing but only for hardest to find coins. Unfortunately, a lot of people abuse the term but potential buyers seems to be attracted by it. I would not describe 2007 50˘ that way -we don't yet know what final mintage is- but security rolls probably are very thin on the ground, I suspect. Any suggestions for key words in a listing title that might attract interest without being misleading (or donright inaccurate)?

Sure, "Hard to get", or "not seen often" usually is best to describe items that are not quite scarce or rare, but are not exactly common either. lower mintage for coins that, compared to others in the series, have a low mintage, but in the greater scheme of things, not really scarce or rare.
If a coin or item is genuinely rare or scarce, I have no problems using those terms. I also find it acceptable to use "scarcer" for the lowest 2 minted coins in a particular series, even if not entirely correct. Others would frown on that, but some leeway could be granted there.

Maybe, taking 50˘ as an example; SCARCE -1985, 1993 and rams head HARD TO FIND -1973, 1997 and first fleet bicentenary. Any other opinions on this semantic matter? Jeff American Heritage Dictionary -(skârs) adj. scarcer, scarcest Insufficient to meet a demand or requirement; short in supply: Fresh vegetables were scarce during the drought. Hard to find; absent or rare: Steel pennies are scarce now except in coin shops. scarce adjective not easy to find or obtain: Food and clean water were becoming scarce. (from Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary) be as scarce as hen's teeth American & Australian to be very difficult or impossible to find It was the President's inauguration and hotel rooms in Washington were as scarce as hen's teeth. (from Cambridge International Dictionary of Idioms) But this dictionary does not have 'as rare as rocking horse...!
