I picked up this error nickel and I need information about what kind of error it is and how it was produced. There is some die clashing on the reverse.

Struck through a die cap, as it appears. There was a coin stuck to the obverse die which in turn struck subsequent coins.

I agree, struck through a capped die.

I have blank planchets that I identify by date:-) You sometimes find things in UNC rolls so you can pin a date on it.

I'm not saying that the person making this post took this from an UNC roll but I am offering this as a possibility.

Thanks,
Bill

I can't say for sure what the date is. It was marked 1984 on the holder when I bought it. Thanks to all for your help. Harvey
