These Tyrian shekels were specially minted as the only currency accepted for the temple tax (half-shekel) in Jerusalem, which resulted in money-changers operating out of the temple compound and the New Testament episode of Jesus confronting them. The shekel is also generally believed to be the silver Judas got 30 pieces of for his betrayal. Considering the role these coins played and the year these particular examples were minted, I wonder whose hands these may have touched!
