Is there any way to tell if your bicentennial coin was struck in 1975 or 1976? Is there a conceivable reason why someone may ever care either way? Thanks.

If it is in a 75 or 76 Mint or Proof set would be one way to tell what year they were intended for. Whether they were actually manufactured in the year they are dated is another story.

I also understand that there were some variances on the Ike dollar coins.

I also seem to recall that some of the 74 dated coins were minted into 75, so there is another rub...

The only conceivable reason I can think of is if somebody is interested in a birth year set.

That, and numismatic curiosity!

As posted

- If they are in the mint/proof set, you can tell.
- The type one Ike's are 1975, type two are 1976.

For me, I have a Dansco Half dollar album.
I put a proof half dollar into it, for each year
of my life. For 1975, I took it from a proof set.

Best I can do is confirm what is said above, that the Variety I Eisenhower dollars are from the 1975 sets and the Variety II are from the 1976 sets.

With the Bicentennial Ike's, the main difference between 1975 & 1976 are the fonts. Info from ebay.
