Quote: One of the bad things about being a Type collector, In your case and with the coins I've seen you post over the years, I would say there's nothing bad about you and your type collection. Beautiful specimen!

1845 Half Dime - possible variety Only if I hold the coin at a 45 degree angle using my loop and/or camera the LIBERTY will faintly show up in its entirety: enough to be an F-12. I didn't feel like messing any further, however, with these photos for grading purposes since more intriguing issues remain.

Here is why I think my 1845 Half Dime 'might' be a new variety: At first I thought it was just a 5/3 since the guy I bought it from only had 5/3 written on its Mylar holder. But when I made the closeups it now appears to be a complete 1845/1843. Any opinions?

My 1845/1843 coin does not appear to be a well documented variety at least from the perspective of the list that I am working off of. The attached Excel list of Half Dime varieties may prove to be of interest to experienced as well as neophytus collectors. It originated from: http://www.seateddimevarieties.com/...ty_index.htmYou can locate this downloadable list about half way down the page with a subject line of 'The Liberty Seated half dime With Varieties Set input form.' fyi, mdpmedia

It's not a pretty coin but does show the FS-301 large date variety nicely:

mdpmedia your 1845 is exactly like my 1845. It is not an unknown 5/3 variety, it's just a repunched 5/5

For those readers with the desire to further delve into this topic please visit the following link and give your opinion of which I would be greatly appreciative to have since we appear to be at an impasse: https://goccf.com/t/237822

Pepactonius, the coin you posted is 1851-O not 1857! Your 1851-O is stellar! The New Orleans mint Half Dimes are always a challenge!

Some very pretty Half Dimes have been posted in this thread! Did I see an 1838 O the lucky owner picked up for $5.?! I have been lusting after that New Orleans date for long time.
