LocalCoinGuy. there is a little device. I am going to buy it. you can connect it to your computer. but you have to be will to tear it apart. I am going to get one. what it will do is keep me from looking through my microscope. if I do this right. I will be able to check coins by watching the computer screen. I am going to try it. if it works like I think it will I will show you how to do this. I will show some thing that will work every bit as good as one of those digital microscopes for pennies. have a great one

@rocky, you have the Canon, when you have this hooked up to the computer and tethered you can use it as a microscope as well. I do this all the time, set it up like you are going to take the pics but don't, you can zoom in on an area if wanted, just keep changing the coin you want to look at.

mcshilling thank you but you see this canon is different in so many ways. ok I finally got the magnifier to work. on this canon camera. I set it at 1to1 there is no cropping. the book for this camera is 458 pages. I have to learn how to set it. the t5 t5i the t1i the eos sl1. does not work like this camera. so I will read and study until I understand it. I think I have to much time on my hands. I like to fig with stuff. I have taken some of these apart and put them back together. I can take a web cam and give it a 20 time optical zoom. by dismantling a sony handy cam. any way. if this works I show you what I mean. it would just be a nice way to check coins fast you have a great one.

trying out the canon camera. I have got the Olympus with the B&L focus staged adapted together. it makes focus a whole a lot more easier. here is the first image from it. will do a focus stack later.

ok tried 2 jansjo and 1 ottlite still can see the lens shadow. the hole I am shooting through is only 23mm. I think I am going to have to build another type of smile director. that will allow light through. so there is no dark. this way there should be no shadow. I am trying lots of light. I noticed the camera shutter is a lot faster. I was reading fast shutter speeds sharper images. so I figured walk the light to the coins see what I get. the image looks sharper to me

nikon d 7100 with a Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 125mm f/2.5 SL mounted. no photo editing single light ottlight lamp. 100 percent crop. the reason I will take a photo later with the canon camera. want to see how they both perform with this lens

mounted the Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 125mm f/2.5 SL on to the canon eos 70D. these to camera are rated to be equals. meaning the nikon d7100. are from the same class or level equals. here is the same coin no editing same single ottlight. you be the judge.

there is a difference the canon was tethered. the nikon was not. I pushed the shutter button on the nikon. so maybe not a fair test. I was very gentle. thought you might want to know that.

i am building my unit know finally. I have some pieces that I am using. I am waiting for a couple of adapters to complete this setup. I will be able to check coins. take photos of errors. using a canon T1I plus I will be able to blow up coins for inspection to find errors. the full size images will be taken with the canon eos 70 D or the sony A7R markII. here is a coin I found last night using some of my system.this is and error coin. as soon as the adapters get here. I will post photos here of how I do it

Really nice rocky. The Beaver side (is that obverse or reverse?) is exceptional.

thank you ray. yes ray that beaver is the reverse of that coin. see the black ghosting on the beaver. I have started to add a lot more light. I am building a unit for checking coins. the magnification is about 10x to 15x. if I can get it to go properly. I will share some photos. I know you have already seen this. because when I was searching for information on an adapter. there was one being built there. that is very similar to what I want to put together. this was done by another member on that forum you was helping that person on the same thread. so I know it will work. I sure wish I could find my way back to that thread. but I will get there. again thank you ray I have learned a lot form you

well some of the pieces are here. I have contacted RAF in russia. I have asked him to build me an adapter. he told me design it. make sure I draw it all out with dimensions. he will build me an adapter from scratch. I have one setup. but I want to try this another way with a relay lens system. I tried it tonight using masking tape. I squeezed the shutter button on the Nikon d7100. to much vibration its showing up in the images. here is my first try single photo no editing. once I get the adapter I should be able to take the pictures. using my mouse on the computer. I think the relay lens system will perform better. first photo is a small gold coin church steeple

i am just wondering is the whole thing vibrating. the camera and the mount. could a shutter cause that much vibration. I will wait for the other pieces. before I do anymore. but I can check coins as fast as I can move them. may have to focus stack to to work at this magnification.
