They were pretty much worth more in the 1950's than they are now.
As a kid in the 1950's it was a tough coin to find in circulation as it was THE COIN needed to fill out the 2nd blue Whitman folder. I think I paid about a quarter for the 55-S cent for my set at a coin shop in Garland, Tx in the early 60's.
I bought a roll of UNC 55's a couple of weeks ago for 7$. Not much of a long term future for them as they were saved from the day they were issued. Bags of them still turn up.
I save all wheat cents no matter what date or mint . however the 1955-S were produced with numerous small errors that make it desirable for Lincoln collectors. Answer to your question ; If every collector in the world were to hoard them right now, then yes they will probably be sort after as a key date for our next generation.
