I'm not sure if this a D/S. On the two identified on this site, you can see the crossbar at the top of the mint mark:

The two examples may be or may not be the only die examples. I notice on your coin a RPM at the bottom of the mint mark though. (split lower serif) I don't have a book right now that lists more of them at this time. Maybe someone has the Volume 1 Cherry Pickers Guide. There would be possibly more information there? (so keep it safe for now)

D/S OMM-2.

Probably 10% of the total mintage of 38-D Buffalos has some sort of MM variety of some kind. This coin has always been one of my favorites.... at last count I have way too many 38-D Buffalo nickels.

I still add a few rolls each year to the pile. Yes, I am addicted to them.

What I'm not seeing on this coin is the "S" at the top of the mint mark. It looks flat there.

Click on the images to enlarge them. You will see what I mean.

Coop, the images on the ngc site are both die#1. One is early and the other a later die state. Die #1 is the only one of the six OMM's known for 1938 that shows the S above the D. Also on die #1 the repunched D to the south does not show in later die states.
