They were pretty much worth more in the 1950's than they are now.

As a kid in the 1950's it was a tough coin to find in circulation as it was THE COIN needed to fill out the 2nd blue Whitman folder. I think I paid about a quarter for the 55-S cent for my set at a coin shop in Garland, Tx in the early 60's.

I bought a roll of UNC 55's a couple of weeks ago for 7$. Not much of a long term future for them as they were saved from the day they were issued. Bags of them still turn up.

I'd save 'em, especially if the have BIE errors or are in really nice shape.

As for "if" they'll ever become a key date, it's anyone's guess. Time is nature's way of keeping everything from happening at once... :)

They should be fairly valuable for your grandkids when they reach 55.
Rest in Peace

I save all wheat cents no matter what date or mint . however the 1955-S were
produced with numerous small errors that make it desirable for Lincoln collectors. Answer to your question ; If every collector in the world were to hoard them right now, then yes they will probably be sort after as a key date for our next generation.
