I've been offered this 1886 nickel, uncertified, for a competitive price. It's low enough that buying it wouldn't be a huge dent for me but I figured I'd get some opinions before doing something foolhardy. I'm no expert on this particular series. Thoughts?

I don't see anything which scares me regarding authenticity, but those patches of black in the denticles look to me like places a harsh cleaning couldn't reach or couldn't remove.

I also think it is real.
XF
Old cleaning, with hit in rim.

One of the top three Liberty head nickel. A lot of good value in
this nickel.

Depending on price it's better than a lower grade slick which are what most collectors have to settle for.

I'm glad it's authentic, because the value is really good. First thing I'll do is send it to a TPG just to be 110% sure. I didn't anticipate the cleaning but it looks nice nonetheless. The price is somewhere in the $70 range, if it's lower than usual that's probably because the seller doesn't normally deal coins. What do cleaned examples such as this generally go for?

I think $70 is more than fair for that coin, I'd be all over it.

$70 for any 1886 V nickel in G or better condition is worthy.
