Hi Slamn - I think your right...plus some MD. I think that the minor DDR is CCW. I'd have to check though.

It is an ugly coin but that does look like die doubling.

I feel this is all machine damage and PSD after the strike. I appreciate you posting this because now I realize the the 001 & 002 DDR for this year is in opposite directions. (never noticed that before)

Class 4
002

Class 5
We can't call it CW-CCW spread (this happens on class 1 doubled dies) as the different classes show the spread in different/same directions on other devices.

I am undecided on this one. I would like to see some close ups of AMERICA and the first few letters of UNITED.

It looks to me like MD. Note how the "doubled line " at the top of the E wraps strait over and down to the field. Were this a doubled die than that line would go to the tip of the serif as it met the field. Crappy phone, crappy pic.

Hi Coop - is there a term to use to describe a left-to-right/right-to-left doubling?

On class 1 doubled die there is a difference between Rotated CCW/CW directions.
Clock Wise (CW)
http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=eds

Quote:
The undisputed king of the Lincoln Memorial era doubled dies. This beauty exhibits very strong CW rotated hub doubling on the entire obverse with complete letter thickness separation between devices.

Counter Clock Wise (CCW)
http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=mds

Quote:
Strong CCW rotated hub doubling seen on the motto, LIBERTY, coat and the date. Similar to, but stronger than, die 007. Probably the second strongest 1972 doubled die after die 001.

But this usually applies to the class 1 doubled dies as they are called Rotated Hub doubling.
