Debrajc: Thanks, that sounds right.

Coin and Currency vs. Coin and Chronicles. I know the "currency" part is critical to the separation of the two, but Jefferson's set has plenty of copy to go with it. After Lincoln, the opportunity to do a presidential coin & currency kind of gets expensive for the mint and for potential buyers. Can you imagine putting a C-note in the Franklin "Commemorative & Chronicles"?

Anybody remember how the Marshall commemorative was received by the numismatic community ten years ago? I had all but forgotten that one.

That would be awesome. The markup would also be awesome.

...and the medal is just a reissue of an old design.
A reissue in silver. The originals were bronze. I like the medals and that is a primary driver of my purchase. If the dollar were not RP I would still get the sets.

I wasn't thrilled with the design, in fact I decided I was going to wait and purchase the American Legacy Set that included both proof commem dollars.

Adding up the final mintage numbers the John Marshall commem sold 66% of the authorized mintage.
