Banknote Certification Service graded this 1954 $1 Devil's Face banknote.

What do you think the grade was?

I will post the actual grade I received in a few days.

Thank you for your opinions.

It's hard to differentiate between uncirculated grades, by looking at pictures but I would guess C.Unc.

From the photos it is difficult to determine if there is
any evidence of a fold.

If no fold, MS 62 (spots on the upper edges of the obverse & reverse).

I evidence of a fold is present, EF 45.

Hard to be sure when not in hand and under the light. Nice note though, very nice centering and margins which I bet BCS will grade favourable....UNC 63-64

It's next to impossible to grade from these pictures it could be anywhere from AU to Ch-Unc. When I enlarge the pictures it almost looks like there may be remnants of a centre fold but the picture starts to distort also.

You really have to examine in hand to properly grade. Nice note just the same.

Cheers, Bill

When the devil's head notes were printed in 1954, they were over-inked which made the paper slightly wavy. This can often look like minor folds in pictures, but is a sign of originality.

Ch-Unc 63, just to be contrary.

I'd love to own one that nice.

The grade given was EF40.

Could not figure out why the note was given such a low grade when it has no creases or folds and has sharp corners.
Is it misgraded? Should I try another grading company?

That's an interesting grade, and one that I wasn't expecting.

Were you able to buy it for EF money?

BCS is a very strict grader, you may say it doesn't have any folds or creases but, I'll bet it has a stain or a fold somewhere.

Also, it looks like BCS believes the note to be pressed otherwise he would have put original under the grade (as per his criteria on his website).
