I grade it around $1800 (64DMPL), and Todd's work will make you feel pathetic. At least, that's what his images do to me.

Agreed on VAM-2A, and seeing one in DMPL is not surprising.

PCGS says MS-63 DMPL for this 1878 Carson City Morgan:

Old-1878-Morgan-$1,-Kinda-Shiny,-In-Plastic-Holder,-Grade?

Glad to see I wasn't too far off. Sometimes making best offers works out just fine.

I had it pegged at 63 dmpl. Too much field chatter even with such a Purdy face. The light peachyness is a nice accent. Me likely

If it could get a -64 it would be a mega-jump in price but I'm not about to risk it.

I think too much chatter in the fields for a 64. I don't think it would upgrade.

I was going to lean more twards 64 but the strike is a little weak maybe thats what held it to a 63.

That strike is virtually as good as it gets, you can almost see complete lines of hair over the ear, at the second highest point on the obverse. That's a tough thing to find on business strikes.

It's the stupid field chatter that did it in. On pl morgans the eye goes to the fields first as well as the cheek so the fields are just as important to the grade assessment, if not more so.
