GSDykes, Look at any Proof cleaned with a brush under a Halogene light and you'll see at least hair line scratches. You'll be able to see them with just your eye too.
I have never brushed my coins before, the most I have done to a coin is to soap them (it's a nickel dollar, which is the only type of metal I would dare wash like that). A smarter thing to do than your brushing of coins. You may not be able to see the hairlines, but they are there.
Sure, harshly cleaned coins will have a "brilliant" reflective look to them, which is the point of people scrubbing them in the first place.
