I just purchased my very first ancient coin. My bid was very reasonable at $7.50, but the shipping from Spain is somewhat painful ($8.50). I've wanted an ancient example for a quite a while. Details are pretty clear. I guess I'll have to start trying to research what's available about it (AE22 ?). It's a brand new area for me. Anyway, take a look & let me know what you think. Welcome aboard! With luck you will become an addled ancients addict like the rest of us ^^
Looks a fair coin for the money, and a good start to collect some Roman bronzes...these are like soft drugs - later you will be craving the crack cocaine of coin collecting the ancient silver!
Good luck :)

to Ancient coin collecting, and congrats on your first coin. This is a very nice later Roman bronze (LRB). Hope this sparks your interest and you get hooked like the rest of us.

Jack You picked a good seller for your first ancient. Very nice coin, I would be pleased to have it in my collection.

The letters denote the metal type in Latin AE=" aes" bronze AR=" argentum" silver (and silver mixes aka Billon) AV=" aureum" gold. The number following the letter is the diameter of the coin in millimeters (ie AE22= 22mm bronze) Welcome to Ancients!

Interesting choice for a first coin, and certainly not a bad one. A Honorius in that condition for that price is a great buy. Was there something that drew you to that emperor or did you just really like the price?

Chuy - I was drawn to the clarity of the design so that I could try to find out about its history. I thought that I would try to get a piece that I could at least see some detail on it. I also looked at the Seller and saw that he appeared to be an honest guy. And, lastly, I was looking for something affordable (after factoring in the shipping charge). That's pretty much the whole story.
By the way, I've had a "sense" as I've visited among the various CCF forums. I must say that the "Ancients Forum" seems to me the "KINDEST" I've come across. Thank you all for the friendly encouragement. Jack

I hope you have had a chance to look over the Sticky section on Books, Downloads, ad Websites. There is a tone of information there along with free books, etc that you can download.

See? That's exactly what I'm talking about. Someone with 16,000 posts, obviously a Pro, someone busy, takes the time to lend a helping hand. Thanks so very much. Your wisdom and advice is much appreciated. Jack

NOT getting hooked...NOT, NOT, NOT! However, having said that, I've decided that my next ancient must be a silver coin. I'm on a beginner's budget. Any recommendations? Jack
