You can tell by the way the metal is smeared and the edges of the depression are raised.

Yeah, that's what I thought too, I just was thrown off by the lack of shininess in the mark.

Only a newer mark would be shiny. Take a look at some of the cents in circulation, how they are all nicked and scratched. Those marks aren't shiny unless they are recent damage.

Yeah, I looked at that too coop, looks normal though. Possibly it was done with some kind of file.
