Hello all, another CRH find that looks like a weak strike on a thin planchet. It has no date but sounds silver, but that could be from the thinness of the coin. I lost my scale so I don't have the exact weight. Also the last picture is of the edge next to a quarter to show its thinness. Thanks know you for the help.

I took a quick look in Strike it Rich to see if there was a 1964 JFK half coined on a quarter planchet. Nothing listed. Possible I suppose which could speak to the shallow relief. Add in some circulation wear and maybe you have what you...have.

I think it may have been someone's pocketpiece. From what I've seen they tend to wear faster towards the rim.

Defiantly a former pocket piece. I don't see any clad sandwiching so it can reasonably be seen as a 1964. If it has the d mint Mark it would be a shoe in for a lowball.

Sorry SSK but it doesn't have to have a date to make PO1.

If the year and mintmark can be determined by other means it doesn't have to have the date. A 90% silver Kennedy should be distinguishable by weight, or specific gravity test if necessary. So now it's down to figuring out whether there's even a tiny blob where the D should be and poof: you have your attribution.

If it was a 64 D the area where the D would be is very clear so it isn't a 64 D. If SG shows it's 90% silver then it's a 1964 plain. Anything else (and I think I see clad layering) and it is ungradeable.
