I bought this one last week with the intention of using it as a pocket piece in my wallet. What are your thoughts on its present grade? Thanks

I would say AU-55, nice clean fields for a lightly circulated coin. usually there are a lot of hits or bag marks.

Thanks, perhaps a bit too nice to knock about.

Yes I agree that it is a very nice coin! Those bag marks are common on Morgan silver dollars because of their size and weight. Even uncirculated Morgans frequently have them.

Unless you are wanting to find out how a pocket piece wears over time, the coin appears to be an AU55+ and though there is no premium, it just seems to me it would be a shame to intentionally allow it to become even more worn. Just MHO.

I'll go with the AU55 camp. Interesting to me in that it's one of the few 1921's I've seen that didn't have at least one clearly visible die crack somewhere.

Hey proof, can you explain to me the logic of wallet pocket pieces. I've never understood it.

Hmmm it's not something that I do at the moment but I like the idea of carrying something interesting in your pocket. I think that this is a bit too nice though. Even though I'm from the UK I much prefer US coinage so I may look out for a worn Barber quarter or half.

Oh, I get it. It's not really about wearing it down for you. Just having it. That makes sense... go ahead and use this one. It's not a big dollar coin and about as common as they get so unless you want better or a non 21 this girl will do
