I haven't been searching much in the past several months, so I hope one of our fellow enthusiasts gets lucky soon or perhaps a new member will be along to get us over the hurdle.

Still...pretty impressive how far this thread has gotten!!

I thought Nickel denomination might have the biggest chance of produce a 1872 coin so I did 109 boxes last year! Oh well! Might try another 100 boxes this year

Indeed yinzi. I'm watching your Buffalo progress. I found a number last year but a higher ratio were dateless. I need to check my own progress there. The only thing that stands out at the moment is that I found a second dateless 1913D variety II. Point being is that there are some rarer coinage floating out there. We just need a little luck to come our way again.

While searching through nickels, you might stumble across an 1872 coin. However, It might also be efficient to search through boxes of cents, as Indian Head cents are not uncommon in boxes. 2500 coins out of a billion or so, right? I like my chances! I suppose I'll give it a look through when I get the chance, and see if I find an 1872.
Wish me luck; I'll need it!

I've had better luck finding V nickels than Indian Head cents over the past few years. Only one 1897 IHC in the past 4 years and maybe 12 V nickels in that same span. I did find an 1883 V nickel, but no Shields...ever.

Even so, there are more coins in a cent box as opposed to a box of nickels. Then again, most IHC are made of Bronze and look different from the copper and zinc cents that are in circulation now. Circulated nickels all look the same at a glance, and someone might've accidently thrown a Liberty into a roll. Maybe even a shield if we're lucky.

Hmmmmm...

I flipped a very worn nickel the other day but saw that it was a V nickel. Still no Shield nickels found during a CRH event (or to help our cause here).
