Another slabbed item.
NOTES:
1. Quarter has MUCH more luster than shown in photo (but it produced too much glare.
2. The darker areas around front edge are not nearly as dark as show on the photos.

Sorry Rich, this quarter is butt ugly, and a very weak strike especially the reverse. with obverse dings and scratches, I don't even want to attempt to grade it.

65+. If luster is strong, I could see 66.

PCGS MS66

Which leads to me to wonder WHY did they rate this MS-66?

I couldn't see much luster in the pics, that's why I went low.

PCGS is probably right.

Rich, a little tip, if you wait longer than 2 hours to post the grade, more members would be able to improve their grading skills :)
Rest in Peace

Despite being a weak strike, I would guess it got that grade because the coin shows very little damage.

Collectors often disagree with the grades given by the best TPG's but it's usually by only a few points. (And, yes, a few points can mean a lot of money sometimes.)

It's the less reputable graders that give ridiculously high grades.

Very weak strike. A couple small nicks on jaw line. Unappealing toning. Not 66 in my book. MS64. 65 is pushing it

On first sight I would have said no better than VF, the strike is that poor. However, the large reverse die crack running radially clockwise from 6:00 convinced me that it was my eyes playing tricks on me. MS65 VLDS, heavily polished dies have removed almost all features, extensive flow and "bulge" or die sink.

Toning is hard to photograph, this may be nicer in hand than the camera makes it appear, but PCGS standards hold mottled toning to a -1 or worse eye appeal.

Sick coin bro. I said 66 straight up. Remember folks, grading a photo is not grading a coin in hand.
