This topic is reverso-world, where bad is good, Dearborn. Pitiful is a compliment!

I just wonder why only one side (the reverse) is worn so bad and the obverse isn't.

I've seen that on quite a few coins, and it's a mystery to me. For instance, check out this Nassau (German States) 3 Kreuzers 1812. Die issue, disproportionate wear on reverse, or PMD - who knows?

Here's my affordable lowball 1803 P Draped Bust Large Cent that I bought on USA CB. It's all I can afford at the moment. I paid 26.50, plus 1.50 for shipping.

I can't tell (don't know how to tell) if this is damage or a straight lowball.
