Water damage. Water got on it and oxidized and became verdigris.

Compare the two varieties side by side and you can see the differences more easily.

Look for this mark in the 6 for the small dates:

Coop I was looking at my other 1960 pennies and I came across this 1960D which I think has that mark on the 6 like your example, would this be a small date 1960d?

This one might be a little clearer.

I'm not coop, but yes that is a 1960D small date. I've found about 20 1960 small dates from Denver but still haven't found one from Philly, and I live in CT!

Oh that's funny Joecontous I'm in CT too and find these in rolls all the time. This one when taking pictures of it last night I saw what might be doubling but haven't had a chance yet to really look at it closer. I haven't really found a lot of fascinating coin here (I've only been here 8 months) but I found my first 1943 coin here a week ago. I've never found one of them before. I travel often to NH and I always find something in the rolls up there. Two 1910's surprised me. Also 1917 and a few 1929. I love the old pennies ;)

Nice. I was in NH last weekend. I go up there once a month. I'll have to get some rolls while I'm up there!

Good luck. The closer you go to the Mass/NH border the better. I go up there often and that's usually my first stop. I seem to have better luck there more so than ct :(
