Looks like it got smashed a bit. Is there anything showing on the opposite side?

That is a strike through. Hard to tell from pics what it was struck through but that is a NICE find. Congrats!

Looks like a struck through to me. The shape of it looks like maybe cloth? Nice. 2x2 it for sure.

I moved this to the Variety and Error sub-forum for more opinion and commentary from the regulars.

Usually the struck through cloth shows the woven fibers.

But in the case of your coin it may have been paper/something else?
You can see the edges of the rim have distinct lines where the struck through ended.
A keeper.

Might be strike through, might be a low pressure strike. The weak/missing areas exactly match the high relief areas of the bust.

Not worth sending in in my opinion.

I too think it's great but not worth sending in to a TPGS.

Your coin was Struck-Through Grease that was first compacted in the Lincoln portrait of and obverse die and then worked its way down to the reverse, most probably falling from the obverse like jello from a mold onto the reverse die between strikes or even possibly while the press was shut down. This is the same class of error as the so-called "Dropped Letter" errors except it is a "Dropped Design."

Others have differing opinions on the exact origin of the grease but all agree it is grease.

Oh wow! Thanks for the responses. Just got back on here recently. I actually found 3 of these in a row. This one was just the one that was most noticeable. Here's the other two... interesting enough they came from the same roll so if your theory is correct on it being grease, perhaps this shows how it progressed...

Can't wait to hear the concensus on this one-although quite a delayed response lol these are quite interesting-I'm guessing a grease build up but we'll see what the experts say
