Dignit, No, I do not give up and I tell it like I see it. Your claims are yours, my opinions are mine. They differ. Get used to it. That's the way the coin business side works. No dealer in his right mind is going to offer you 9K to 15K$ for THAT coin. No auction buyer in his right mind is going to pay you 9K to 15K$ for THAT coin. If you really think it's worth that kind of money then throw it up on ebay in a fixed price listing at 15k$ with a "best offer" option that you can consider and see what happens. Better yet, roll the dice and let it go in front of the high dollar buyers in a Great Collections auction where we can all watch the show. (That's what the guy with the MD 01-S quarter ended up doing). As far as an assigned value goes, I'd estimate you'd receive offers in the 2500 to 3500$ range on a good day. Bottom line is it is your coin and your call. Good luck whatever you decide to do with it.

If you abandon this forum just because people disagree with you, perhaps this is not your cup of tea.
(Constructive) criticism is a key to learning. I don't want to be a part of any forum where people's opinions are suppressed just because they are different, and CCF does a great job of letting all sides of the discussion share their opinions.
You won't realize how rare that is until you try other forums where mods disagree with your opinion and ban you, or delete your posts, or where influential posters can have mods delete posts they don't like. CCF has none of that and that is a blessing on the Internet.

Coinfrog the OP asked at the bottom of page 12 "do people sell their coins on here and do I need to first be a member for awhile before doing that " Moe was answering his questions.

As far as the association with Smith you have to prove that for the story to help you get a better price. Do you watch Pawn Stars? They have people on the show all the time trying to sell Jessie James' pistols or Billy the Kid's belt buckle. What evidence do you have to prove this coins was associated with Smith? I am not doubting you, but your coin involves antique, historical, gold and numismatic value. If I was rooting around at Mount Vernon and found an old coin for the time of George's lifetime would that be definite proof that he dropped it? This is all getting a little crazy. You are the only one who knows if you found this coin as you say you did. I am willing to believe you did, but can you prove it? I don't know what the possible connection between the coin and Joseph Smith might fetch you.

Terry....
There is NO connection between Joseph Smith and this coin! The OP never implied that it was associated with Smith. The coin was allegedly dug at a "colonial site" about "10 miles away" from a home site that was once associated with Joe Smith. Two very different locations.

Correct the coin has NO association with Joseph Smith or any of the Mormons. I would not delete this forum, someone mentioned delete this forum and I put a ? why delete it ? As far as value is concerned , I'm guaranteed $5K from one coin dealer and so far possible up to $10K - I'm guessing I'll probably sell it for around $7K-$8K . And what are your thoughts on the possibility of there being more in the same spot ? I found this 13 inches deep, which is really deep for metal detecting, actually it's the deepest coin I've found to date. I use a big coil, but there are bigger ones & I'll be getting one. My thoughts are if there is a large coin like this that my detector picked up at 13 inches, good possibility that there are smaller ones I couldn't pick up and possibly some deeper of either the same size or smaller ? On this site I've found LC's ,Colonial coppers, dandy buttons and flat buttons, and many round balls & other bullets. Do you think someone could have actually lost this or do you think it was part of a stash ? The area which was definitely a colonial site is now a farmers field that he plants crops and turns the soil. They don't turn as deep as they used to many years ago and the soil where this coins at the 13 inch depth was below the turned layer ? I appreciate all the comments good or bad ? What if I find more from this era, that'd be insane great ! Again, I'll post pics when I get it back hopefully this week coming up.

Depends on what coil you're using. If you want to hit targets smaller than a half eagle at >= 1 foot you are going to need an excellent deep seeker coil especially if the soil is hot or salty. What model Garrett are you running, a GTX/GTI or AT or similar?

The association with Smith is only that he was a treasure hunter in this area. No he never touched this coin, but he surely was digging on every abandoned "colonial site" in a 20 mile radius of his home looking for it, as were a lot of other people. Eventually an angel directed Smith to look on Hill Cumorah where he found gold plates and Mormonism began. The entire religion started because he was a gold-digger. Does this make the coin worth more than numismatic value? If it can be shown that it was there by 1820 it could. Judging from the other artifacts you found on the site it's possible that it was. Armed with that much you've got to convince an eager buyer...who would not be me unfortunately....much as I'd like to have it - even without the association - it's too much money.
We used to turn up arrowheads from time to time when plowing and cultivating. I don't think that the plow we had went deeper than 8", and the disc was shallower than that.

OP...
If someone offered you 5K$ for the coin you better take the money and run!

I'd also suggest looking through Heritage Auctions archives to get ideas of what they have sold for. They have records referencing around 200 transactions for this date and denomination going back 15 years. (I'm sure some of those transactions are the same coin appearing in different auctions.)
They have records of everything sold from "problem" coins like yours, to problem-free MS coins. Values are all over the place. You just have to do your homework to get realistic ideas of value.
