Hm. My grandfather was Engineer of Tests for the CB&Q until he retired in 1959 (I believe), and two of his sons (my uncles) worked for the Burlington, one as a clerk, the other as an engineer. That was on my mother's side; on my father's side, one uncle was a mechanic for the Northern Pacific. So, yeah, I'd go for a railroad commemorative, too. How 'bout a 3/4 shot of the front of an old Baldwin locomotive on the obverse, and a stylized map of the USA showing major routes spiderwebbing across it on the reverse, as a starter for design ideas?

Sounds good to me!

This had me excited!

I have fond childhood memories of riding the Amtrak. It was the best choice when we moved to Minnesota for a while. When going between Minnesota and Chicago, it was easier than driving, and cheaper than air; especially when you consider that it took twice as long to drive to the closest airport (Twin Cities) than it did to fly into Midway or O'Hare!
Rest in Peace

And there should be a "star" on the map route where Butch Cassidy or Jesse James "robbed" it !

The only train I've ever been lucky enough to ride was the Alaska Railway. I boarded in the center of the state, roughly, and then rode it to Anchorage, Alaska. WOW !....is the only thing I can say .........
5 star dining....wine....scenic beauty.......priceless !
