biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 12/04/2015 3:08 pm Improperly Annealed status cannot confirmed with any certainly because the coin is obviously circulated, environmental damage can also darken a nickel. The presence of original mint luster is the only way to definitively identify an improperly annealed coin. Report this Post to the Staff

The color goes through the surface of the coin." So does this mean a scratch test can be done on the edge to determine if the coin is black throughout indicating Black Beauty OR if shiny silver appears it's a regular nickel with environmental/PMD?
