Last night I spent $5.00 worth of halves at a convenience store. And after reading Jack's post, I will check out Walmart this weekend for the same reason. There remains $92,437.50.

Last week, in our Farmers Markets change and other expenditures I circulated $284 in halves - most of these are in actually giving change in sales transactions.
The last four weeks I have found only one coin to add to my collection - 1986P in so-so condition. Now I only have 1964D, the 1987's, 2006D, 2010D and 2012D onward to find. Of the coins I have, only the 1970D was not from circulation. I also have found a few San Francisco coins in the past in the rolls, but none for quite a while. I have been seeing vast quantities of 1971, 1974 and 2000 lately though.
$92,153.50 to go... In the last year I have circulated over $10,000 in half dollars.

I wanted to test the theory that Walmart's self checkouts take half dollars, so I spent 2 dollars (which the machine took no problem) and some other mixed bills on stuff there, so that makes the total $92,151.50 to go

Quote: 1986P in so-so condition Is there a reason to keep this?

Numisma queried a part of my posting: Quote: 1986P in so-so condition Is there a reason to keep this? Yes, there is only in the sense that I will keep it until I find a nicer example. I have become spoiled with the nice almost brilliant circulated half dollars that I often find in the rolls I get from the bank, so I like to have really nice, but circulated coins in the collection at least of the Kennedy halves. Interestingly, I have never found any Franklins in the coins we get but I don't find that surprising thanks to the silver content and the different design. I still wonder if I will find any of the 1987's in the rolls thanks to the Not Intended For Circulation status of those coins. The incidence of the NIFC coins in the more recent years (2002 onward) seems to have been decreasing at this point for a while, but that could be a question.

Just one dollar's worth in today's transactions. That's the bad news.
The good news is that I got some rolls at the bank, and although skunked for the purposes of silver mining, it provides a means of contributing to the cause here.
