I like the initiative, so far I've spent about $8 total over the last year in half dollars. But as someone who has delivered food and has worked cash registers and both convenience and restaurants, I'd like to remind those of you who have not had to deal with it that there is no actual spot in normal till for the half dollars and dollar coins and for someone running delivery it is quite heavy carrying around a pizzas worth of half dollars. I totally support this initiative and I'm going to start to spend what I can and half and full dollar coins but I feel the need for moderate usage such as if your bill is 20 half-dollar coins, just use 9 full dollars and 2 half dollars to cover the change. The reasoning behind this is if you want it to become popular you must not only make them available but also make them available in a way that people do not get angry on an average basis over the certain currency. I love collecting coins and if I didn't then that job at the convenience store would have made me hate the US half-dollar for being big and bulky along with full rolls being used to pay for a six pack. Moderate usage is the key term here when trying to gain more popularity in everyday use.by the way,we where advised to drop large quantities of dollar coins, half dollars, and 2 dollar bills because of the weight it put on the till and just the plane fact that there's no specific spot for them inside the till.

Since my 10/27 post, I have handed out $2113 in half dollars in this time at our farmers markets and bill paying. Apropos the comment of the former cashier, I make sure to not use many at a time, in fact this is nearly all one per transaction.... In this time though I have some across nearly no NIFC Kennedy halves and only two silver coins, a much lower rate than usual. Not my hope. I did however complete the P and D mints to 2014 now - all from circulation except 1970D! Every one! I get lots of positive comments about the usage of the half dollars. $62,561 to go
