austrokiwi you see control pro. tethering software was license by Sony to tether the Sony a7 mark II and the Sony a7r. the user that had purchased the a7rmark II kidded up such a fuss. that Sony did a quick license. I think there is still bugs that need to be worked out. quit possibly a firmware update. there has already been one firmware update. according to the Sony users it was not enough for the Sony a7rmark II. the group on another forum wants certain issues fixed. this is all stuff I have read. on other posts

I understand firm ware updates are pretty regular occurrences for all brands. I have performed at least 2 Firmware up dates on my A7rMii( I am on version 3). The last allowed 14 bit processing( with incredibly high memory demands). We Camera owners always demand more no matter what the brand. I am hoping Sony will bring out an update that will allow focus stacking ( like Olympus) and a high resolution( not that we really need more) sensor shift mode. I believe in the lab Sony has achieved at least one of those functions.

Rocky: After having used Capture one express I really like it. The best thing is its "engine" for converting Sonys RAW files to JPEGs. The results are qualitatively superior to the A7rIIs in body software. So Being happy I thought I would Risk the US$50.00 for the Pro programme. This may well be, given your experience, the start of a saga. I paid for the programme received the down load link went through all the necessary steps of installation only to find I still only have capture one express on my Laptop. I repeated the exercise wit the same result. So now I am awaiting Phase ones support teams response.
Edit: Are they for real! So I get a reply ( Rocky I am sure you went through this) it consists of a link to a mac tutorial ( I am running on a windows 10 Lap top! as per the purchase reference) After some trial and error I find out how to follow tha mac instructions on a PC environment..... You have to go to Preferences find Licences tab( they said find the about tab) open the licence tab and then click on stop Capture one express. That removes the licence!! Then you close the programme....then you reopen it with a screen giving a number of options including activate. I clicked on that entered my licence number and that was almost it.
Phase one describe the programme as intuitive....I suppose it is for the person who designed it!! Certainly it was counter intuitive for me!!
It is a good programme but!
Seond edit. I got it sorted and had my first play with tethering. Thought I had your problem till I remembered I had to set the camera to PC remote. It was nice seeing a coin on a 15 inch screen. There is going to be a new learnign curve for me now.... then, if it actually provides a work process that is useful it will be time to start to prod Helycon and zerene to add the A7rII to their software. They can no longer claim you can't tether the A7rii

That sounds super frustrating. From my brief contact with Capture one support staff I gained the impression they were mac techies and weren't that comfortable with a PC environment. I will repeat myself the programme is good but there is no way I would call it intuitive as they describe it. I am slowly going through their video tutorials. I don't know enough to help. What firm ware version are you using on your camera? ( menu : tool box item column 6 ) my camera is on version 3 I dimly recall( perhaps wrongly) on one earlier firmware version some functions returning to factory default from time to time. I was never effected by the problem so I didn't really take enough notice to remember what the issue was. So this is a real long shot( and I suspect you have tried everything logical so far) Perhaps check the USB setting after trying to connect to capture one. May be its jumping from PC remote back to Auto or mass storage. ( Menu tool box( far right) column 4). ON the off chance that you need to up date the Firmware: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-d..._group_id=28

thanks austrokiwi I will check my firmware. control pro contacted me again. I guess they did not like me being rude. but they said. lets try this method. we are going to work in a split screen mode together. that way they will walk me through step by step to fix this issue. there is another group that deleted. this tethering software. they said rocky if you get it to work photograph every thing. step by step. we would like to have that. so this might help a lot of people. thanks austrokiwi.
austrokiwi do you think it is possible to have a lens. to sharp for coins. could this be possible.

Quote: austrokiwi do you think it is possible to have a lens. to sharp for coins. could this be possible. Seriously no. Sharpness is a combination of Resolution and contrast... sharpness measures how well an object is imaged. that said I am pretty sure that for some ebay sellers a box camera would be too sharp for the coins they try to sell

austrokiwi loaded all the programs. they ask me to load one is called teamviewer. I know how this works. tomorrow they will ask for my approval. to take control of my computer. I give them permission. they go from there. I added control pro again from a link they sent me. plus did a check for any firmware updates. the camera is at 3 now. so hopefully they can get this program working. I was on the other forum that lens that so sharp. I saw some images done with a Sony a7r. all I can say is wow. there is no doubt that lens is sharp. the member there are say the same wow. some was skeptical said no way. the owner took a photo of the lens mounted on the Sony a7r it is a beast. he said all his shots was from a tripod. I am able to try one in 4 weeks. see what I get with it

austrokiwi its already down not working. but I think I have a fix. when I worked airpatrol. we had a system for working in liveview with resolution video recorder. see when I take a picture know it automatically goes to DPP anyway right from the sony. so I think have away to work in liveview. trigger the camera with my mouse. yes just talked with the company tecs. I worked with before I retired. there is away around this. I can have liveview. the images with flow into DPP. it will cost me 100.00 Canadian. I will be photographing with a sony and processing with DPP. there problem solved.

I went to the electronic store this evening. there is a young lady that works there. I have talked to her before. she explained how in university. how they work in liveview the how class. I explained to her what the tec explained to me. she said that is how they do it there. that way the whole class can take part. I will start buying the pieces. this way I can tether any camera. that has a HDMI out.

I was on a forum this evening. I am not a member there. I saw some photos taken with a Sony a7r with a Sony macro lens. all I can say is holy moly. that camera and lens is incredible. you can tell that person. knows how to use that camera and lens combination. those photos are off the scale. very well done.
the pieces are coming. so I can tether. I have a tec coming for visit. he is going to show me how to set up 2 monitors. one for my computer the other is for coins only. it will be feed by the camera directly. I do all the focusing on that monitor. the coin will fill the screen. I use c2 on the Sony for magnifying the coin. this will make it easier for find tuning focus of the coin. the image when taken goes directly into DPP . perfect set up for me.

From what you have said I understand you are using the cameras HMDI feed to one monitor and DPP (without live view)for capturing the photos via USB feed. If that is correct then that is much the same system , absent DPP, I had before going to Capture one. It works but I do have to say the capture one single feed system is better
