How do you flatten the staples on your 2x2s?

I use a flat clinch stapler and that usually does a good job, but sometimes I also use sheet metal pliers to get them extra flat.

Without buying a new stapler.
Forgot to mention that, how shocking it may sound, but I don't have pliers

Pliers are best, and a tool everyone should have.

Depends on the sort of material your album pages are made of.
With soft PVC album pages, I used to use flat clinch staples.

Unfortunately, 2x2's that are flat clinch stapled fall out of Mylar or polypropylene album pages mor easily.

With NON PVC album pages, I always use CURVED clinch staples in the 2x2's. They grip the inside of the album page pockets better, an are less inclined to fall out.

normal pliers have grooves to improve traction when clamping on to a pipe, bolt, or anything. These sheet metal pliers don't have grooves and are basically flat metal plates. These would not leave an impression or mark on the 2x2 surface.

I use a small pair of pliers my nephew gave me. I would like to mention it has little to no grooves on the jaws so it leaves no marks after I flatten the staples.

I used to roll the staples flat with the edge of a British copper nickel Churchill crown; they are much cheaper then pliers!

I use a small pair of pliers to flatten my staples. I have had no problems with this method.

I use heavy duty staples so pliers won't work well (hand gets tired VERY quickly).
I use channel locks; longer handles makes the difference.

I use a sledge hammer ! All kidding aside ,If you really don't want to spring for a Flat Clinch Stapler then by all means go to a $1 store and buy a needle nose plier.

Flat head pliers.

I have used the same flat head pliers and stapler for well over twenty-five years now. If and when that stapler gives up the ghost I may get a flat cinch version. Those pliers, however, are epic. They will outlast me.
