Sorry I can't take pictures yet due to the fact that we re-wrapped it (long story short: my wife didn't tell me we were skyping her parents until AFTER I opened it) but for a Christmas gift we got a 2013 1/10 oz gold Chinese Panda coin! A very tiny, itsy bitsy part of me wanted to buy my own first gold coin, but definitely am very happy nonetheless! :D Will have pics up tomorrow!
Rest in Peace

You still have the opportunity to buy your first US gold coin. I think the small circulated coins are the best -- real bit of history in your hands.

That is true! I really like the eagles on the older US gold coinage and I am looking forward to getting one in the future! But hey if I ever got one for a gift I certainly wouldn't be upset! ;)

A great present and as has been said, you still have the chance of buying your first US gold. Think of a $5 Liberty and you can't go wrong. Neat, old, larger, gold, cool!

My first gold coin was also a Christmas present many years ago, a 2000 1/10th oz. gold Eagle. I wish I had gotten something older. My family owns 5 quarter eagles (1851, 53, 55, 56-C, 61) and a half eagle (61) which I can admire when I want. All are MS except the 56-C. There is also an 1880-M sovereign and some Swiss bullion (10 Fr: 1915-B. 20 Fr: 1912-B, lots of 1947-B).
Congratulations on a

I never saw this golden Belgian coin , the reverse is classic and beautiful.
Here my only Chinese gold coin : a 100 yuan coin of 1986 with Liu Bang (256/247-195 BC ) , the founder of the Han dynasty ;it is 23 mm and weights11,318 gr (917 °/°°).The photos are not very good , the coin is in a plastic box.albert

I remember my first gold coin too. I saved up for weeks to get $10 to buy a US 1861 $2.50 in about fine. My coin dealer pal Wally Wac had put it aside for me. The fact I was an 8 year old kid was not a problem - we shook hands on the deal and 6 or 7 weeks later I had the money. The coin has considerable wear but I still have that coin because at 8 years old I really loved it.

That was in 1956 same year that I saved up $15 to buy a BU 1955 double hubbed cent. I sold that coin for $ 3,875. Wally had a roll of BU 1955 DH cents. He got it in 1955 and the first ones he sold for 25 cents. If only I had known, I would have bought the roll. But I can still recall my mother saying

You paid $15 for a penny - are you nuts?

At the time our family income was about $30 a week.

I picked up my first gold coin earlier this year, a 1782 Columbia Escudo.

My first gold coin of numismatic value was not a great purchase looking back on it. I was 7 or 8 and I bought an 1861 gold dollar, probably about EF and with glue residue on the reverse, for $75.
