Nice looking coins. I like the 1955, I think a little color adds interest and character. Keep it up I want to see what you have in another 6 months.

As to your question; WHAT IS A NICKEL?

This is a nickname for the 5 cent coin in the US because it is made of the metal nickel (there is some copper in it also). Because of this composition these coins can achieve some fantastic toning, this is part of the appeal for me.

There is not just 'some' copper, the coins are actually mostly made of copper (.750 Cu, .250 Ni).

the reduction came about cos the site wouldn't take the size of the pic but I think I had already reduced it and did it automaticly again before posting if that makes sense. I will post another one hey!!

Your avatar? At the top of the page click on the 'Tools' button. From there you can edit your profile. There are a number of pictures to choose from, or if you want one that isn't there, post a new topic with the picture asking the mods to change it for you.

What us Americans call a 5 cent coin. I believe originally slang word that caught on.
