Ok, I know this is well past ended but am intrigued. I look at this with my limited (but hopefully growing!) knowledge and see a polished and cleaned coin due to the small what look like brush marks and rim damage at the "9" in 1927. I don't collect these but the mirror like finish makes me think this coin has been polished. Peace dollars don't seem to look like this in my experience. |

This luster looks completely natural to me. As I've put my own Peace set together over the years I've tried to find this type of cascading luster and they are difficult to find. Several of the ones I have, which are NGC and PCGS, have this same brilliance. As for the rim ding near the 9 in the date, I don't think that it's quite strong enough to pull a details grade. In all, I'd say this is a very beautiful MS-63 (possibly 64) and well worth the bid price.

The coin looks like it will straight grade ms 62/63. If I am going to pay $285 for a coin, It will be on a NGC or PCGS slab, so I do not have to worry about a details grade. Buying expensive raw coins on ebay can be a mine field. |

MS62/63 photos are juiced up for sure, the luster looks right on a Peace dollar, they don't have the same cartwheel look as Morgan dollars do, more of a blotchy look to the bright and dark areas. Dealer is a Pro and I suspect the coin has been cleaned due to the many light scratch marks and lack of deeper bag marks ... Just way too many light marks for my liking .....
Additionally I agre with others, Photos have been tweaked and strange there were only two pics of the coin which also leads me to believe the Dealer may have something he doesn't want to show .....
As for buying coins over X Bucks and they must be certified ..... We all have our own limits - Right now I'm looking for a 1914-D Buffalo in AU grade to fit into my album, so a certified coin is not a priority but purchasing a nice example with good eye appeal is!

Okay, I'm a bit new here, and this coin clearly has a really nice strike, but what about all the scratches on the neck and face? Would this not be a sign of some type of cleaning?
