I enjoy going through rolls of wheats, but my set is nothing to brag about. Until recently I could often fill a hole in my album from those rolls, and I can still sometimes upgrade to a better example. It's just kind of a fun thing to do, and I enjoy the surprise of finding a penny I want to keep.
I've never bought a roll on
ebay, but I assume that those teaser coins on the ends are there to make you feel better about the junk in the middle. I don't believe there's any such thing as an unsearched roll, and it's a pretty safe bet that the seller is just getting rid of coins that aren't worth selling individually. Some of those may still be appealing to me, because my set has a lot of room for improvement.
I think two dollars per roll of wheats is a reasonable price, but coin dealers have to eat, so I'm willing to pay as much as three dollars per roll, and a little more if you can guarantee me specific contents (all 1920s, for instance, or all S-mints). I've never seen wheatback rolls available on
ebay for what I consider a reasonable price.
I might offer my rejects on
ebay sometime, if I can figure out a way to sell them for a fair price, including postage and
ebay fees, without losing money, but I think the best use of them is just to roll them back up and give them to kids.
