Seeing the Toonie and Loonie in the 2013 Uncirculated Set and the Hub Doubling that is displayed in both coins in one set, it makes for a very interesting double error combo. See the attached pics. I have 5 sets, three have double toon and loon, one is double loon only, and one is normal. I cherry picked two at the post office one day, took my loupe in and took a look and said I`ll take those two please. They were very accommodating. This set has the most offset I`ve seen. The beads, trees and the security seal on the Loon are doubled. The Loon itself is not. For the toonie it is just in the obverse legend. Coin World did a story on the two coins here and - "identified the Loon dollar as probably showing Class IV Offset Hub Doubling" http://www.coinworld.com/news/world...d-dies.html Above - Check out the notching on the inside bottom left corner of the D and the inside the triangle of the A. Zonad wrote about those coins in a past CN Journal column...

Thank you, much appreciated, I believe my toonie is not doubled, just the loonie in my set.

Do you remember which issue (volume) that article was published in Randy?

So I was looking at these sets again and there are two types of toonie doubling. One in which the effigy is really doubled along the right side of the portrait and another where the doubling is very minor. Two different dates are noted as the shift in the doubling is in a different direction from one date type to another. Are these two different hubbing errors? Type 1 the shift in the Date is NE Type 1 Minor doubling in Effigy Type 2 the shift in the Date is WNW The Type 2 WNW Shift has doubling evident in the Effigy profile, doubling on entire right side of portrait.

I couldn't locate an article about the doubled loon, but Henry Neinhuis may have written a little about the creation of dies at the Winnipeg mint.

So is this common? Or is it just one die affected or an errand hub/master die or another issue? I found the 4th image interesting with the 'DA on CANADA. The center of the 'D' is not affected and the rest of the coin is showing a doubled die.

I've found some from the Holiday set (as have others). The toonie has the type 1 doubling.

Quote: Do you remember which issue (volume) that article was published in Randy? There's a photo of the loonie on the cover of the April 2013 CN Journal issue with the caption, "2013 Doubled Reverse Legend Dollar From Royal Canadian Mint Uncirculated Set," but I don't see any article inside.
