I think it would be appropriate (yet potentially frustrating to collectors) if the U.S. Mint issued Presidential dollar coins after the passing of each POTUS going forward. As mentioned, it would take Congressional action for this to happen.

Agree with jbuck; Native American coins will continue to be minted and NIFC. If and when the dollar FRN is 86'ed I really hope there's an overhaul of the dollar coin.

The Presidential dollar was a good idea but poorly executed. Frankly, more than half the portraits in my opinion were quite poor, with Reagan being one of the weaker ones.

I'd have to think Congress would pass a law directing the mint to continue the series in the event a still-living president dies. Wouldn't really be fair otherwise.

As for the dollar coin going forward, I would personally love to see the Sac dollar and the pres dollar combined in the following way: put the normal Sacagawea portrait on the obverse and the Statue of Liberty from the pres dollars on the reverse. Now that would make an attractive coin.

I always thought the Pres reverse looked sort of tacky and tokenish. I'd love to see a return to the original Sac design with Eagle reverse (probably THE best US coin design since 1916); Date and Mint on the Obverse where they belong (not on the edge!).

I think a constantly changing design undermines the image of stability that the base denomination unit of our coinage should represent.

No statements other than the Reagan coin is horrid. Worst out of all of them IMO.

What is the plan for the dollar coins going forward?

The law specifies that upon the ending of the president dollar program all dollar coins will be of the Sacagawea design.

That portion of the law was written in 2005 when the President dollar was authorized and no modification was made to it when the NA authorization was passed in 2007 changing the Sac dollar design. This then bring up the question "What IS the Sac dollar design?" Does the NA dollar continue? Or does it follow the letter of the law and revert back to the 2000 - 2008 design?
