quote: I will try a translation The violins of autumn with their long sighs wound my heart with a monotonous inactivity
Close enough. If I remember my D-Day history correctly, this was a message to the Belgian, Dutch, and French underground resistance (Maquis) that the Invasion was underway and to commence anti-German operations. It appears their actions were successful. The good guys won.

quote: Les Sanglots longs des violons de l'automne
Blessent mon coeur d'une langeur monotone
The first line was a general warning to stand by The second line was an announcement the invasion was within 24 hrs The Germans knew this but had had so much disinformation they disbelieved that any army would cross in a northsea storm Documents recently disclosed after their secret moratorium period expired seem to indicate that a single cell of French resistance faking the sabotage of the big guns at Pas de Calais and getting wiped out in the process made the Germans sure the invasion would be in the smallest part of the channel Pas de Calais

I know several coins never even reached the authorised limit of 500 pieces Marie Cury at 500 was repeatedley up for sale at 900 and did not sell
Somebody must want Chopin very badkly and started this overpriced situation
Even the Kitty coins never were that exhorbitantly priced
In othr words I think somebody paying that price is going to loose more then half his money in three years time

I hope not I have four of them. Also I have couple of Marie. Chopin is very popular topic in Europe specially in Poland. I know a Lot of peoples looking for this coin and pay good money for it. With Marie is different story , it was commissioned by German dealer and he got 95% of them.Only time will show if Mari will folow Chopin. But Chopin is going nowhere but up. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...18&rd=1&rd=1

http://cgi.ebay.com/20-Euro-Gold-Fr...in_W0QQitemZ330121942633Something's going on here. While the Chopin winner was a new eBayer, it was bid up by a number of experienced eBayers. I didn't check them further for location, but if Chopin is that popular in Europe and especially Poland, Monnaie de Paris finally struck a winner. I wonder if MdP does any kind of market survey before minting a gold coin.

Fred As far as I can tell Monnaie de Paris cranks out 50-60 designs a year covering their operations costs They have gone to 500 pieces in gold and 99 in gold 5 ounce pieces because they sell for around 2.5 times goldprice up to the coining limit Several series never reached the 500 limit but they do not care because win or lose on the secondary market ( ebay germany mostly) is not their concern they have their 250% margin and if you have the presses and a retooling department you can make dies cheaply Look at the knights who were able as a private organisation to get dies designed and made at a very reasonable cost It looks like the best hit overal Monnaie de Paris had was the Kitty series originally gone for like 85% to Japan
