Can someone tell me if this is some sort of error or was it defaced somehow? Caribou has 2 dots, reverse face has a dot as well as a dot in front of her eye...
What is the discoloration? I thought these were totally nickel.
They were made from multi-ply steel with a thin coating of nickel, then copper, then nickel again. The darker areas might be the copper layer but I can't imagine how this could be a mint error......I'l leave that open for the opinion of the experts on this forum.
It's environmental damage. It's spent some time in a nasty place like the bottom of a cupholder. The plating has been compromised, the dots are the result of rust forming on the steel core.
