This is because these are not pure (.999) silver.
I have found that the weights on this particular medal vary greatly. Grove lists them in his book at 50.18 grams. The two I own are 49.6 grams and 49.2 grams.
Both are 45.2 mm in diameter.

That's a nice little gold medal issued by the Mexico Mint in 1962 commemorating, appropriately, 100 years since the battle of Puebla on cinco de Mayo (May 5th) 1862. That was 155 years ago today. The medal is 28 mm in diameter and weighs approximately 17.5 grams of probably .900 gold. The mintage of this medal is estimated at around 15,000. At the same time, the mint issued another gold medal, 38mm, around 41 grams. Mintage estimated around 7,600. (Mint records indicate a total of 22,614 were minted for the these two medals together.)

Here's another gold Mexican medal. This one was issued by the Mexican Mint in 1966 to honor three presidents of Mexico - Adolfo de la Huerta, Elias Plutarco Calles and Abelardo L. Rodriquez. It was also minted in silver

I must have missed this the first time I went thru. The 2 oz commem for Chapultepec. Great link in to my Marine Corps. That battle is where we got the first line of the Marine Corps Hymn "From the halls of Montezuma..." and is also the reason the blood stripe was added to dress blues trousers (NCO's and officers) as a commemoration of that battle and the high number of dead Marines.
However, the medal commemorates the Mexican side of the story. So to credit that - it is about the 5 young cadets that refused to retreat/surrender and all gave their lives to save the castle. Great item! And all the medals are fantastic.

antwerpen2306, your medal is part of a series of medals issued for the games. Here are eight more in the series, I am not sure how many in total there were. They all have one side with the wreath, the name of the games, and MEXICO 75. The other sides, I have listed a tongue in cheek description of each.
