this is an 1862 gold dollar with rim damage from being made into a pendant and then filed off. any idea on grade and value

AU-55 details, damaged. Melt value is about all it is worth.

Most I'd go on it would be $70. If you wanna sell it I want one for a gold type set I want to start soon.

AU-Details, definitely something going on with the area above liberty's head and the corresponding spot on the reverse.

Gold content at $59. Definitely worth more than that to a collector, possibly north of $100 on ebay. However I have a hard time seeing a dealer pay much more than melt.

You really don't need much as far as the grade is concerned. Unless it's a rare date, once it's damaged by jewelry inclusion, they are worth melt to a dealer and maybe 1.2-1.3X face to a collector looking to fill a type hole.
