I have to say that I agree with denco here, for the most part. Littleton was the only option I had for a stretch with no LCS to serve me. The approval service filled many holes and I felt the price was okay, all things considered at the time. My only complaint is that it was difficult to get Littleton to stop the approval shipments. It only ended after I moved.

I too purchased coins from Littleton as a YN and in recent years have purchased a couple of their promo offers and immediately returned the approval coins and cancelled the approval service. No problems whatsoever.

I've only used them a couple times and have been happy with the quality and price. However I've really only taken advantage of their special offers and cancel future service immediately.
There are better ways to get coins but you can find a deal if you look and are careful.

I ordered a catalog from Littleton and was baffled when I read through it. There prices are ridiculously HIGH! I mean who would buy from them honestly, I figure its got to be just Rich older folks with plenty of money that don't know any better and don't really research they just buy. I cant believe they are still in business after all these years. IMO

I agree with Denco7 you get what they advertise but I will admit they ask for top dollar. There are bargains to be had but they are usually few and one must pay attendtion to see them. Also Littleton has some things that you usually don't see from other dealers. That said and done I've never had any problems with them and when I did have a problem with the order they corrected it promptly.

Littleton was born and raised in the world where dealers price lists, printed up and sent via snail mail, was the norm. You could advertise in the coin magazines and newspapers, you could go to shows, but if you didn't want to put much work into collecting, Littleton was a great option. They would send you neat packages of coins, NEVER DUPLICATED, you sent a check. You didn't have to do anything. And there were and are a certain percentage of the population which is perfectly happy with that scheme. Today, when a few moments on ebay, or Great Collections, or Heritage, or Stacks or a thousand other places, will result in a huge number of available options with photographs, Littleton has lost much of it's original glamour. It still does business, but I'm sure that there customer loyalty has been severely impacted by the options available today. But as has been pointed out, at one time they were a reliable source for coins as long as you didn't want to spend much time looking for coins or comparing prices.

Littleton is great for the hobby but not as great for their customers. They deserve a much better reputation than they have in the hobby.
The quality of the material they sell tends to be OK but the prices are full retail. Most coins are available cheap in the hobby if you do the work.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Recently I bought on the secondary market an ancient originally marketed by Littleton, this being to pass it along to somebody else. I did so because short of the coin being certified, I felt reasonably confident that having come from Littleton, it was genuine. In that regard, over the years Littleton hasn't done a disservice to the hobby.

Littleton is the epitome of the rip-the-novice mass marketing company. Always has been, even going back 40 years to when I was a kid. Mox makes good points, but on balance, I do not feel a huckster company like this is good for the hobby. Just my opinion.

They may not be saints, but ebay counterfeit scammers, home shopping peddlers, and multi-level marketing ilk are way more worse.
