This is from the email I got. "The Royal Canadian Mint's new custom collector case holds all 20 coins from our 2011-2015 Face Value series of $20 for $20 and $25 for $25 coins. You'll never have trouble locating your collectibles or displaying your collection. The well-appointed case includes a flocked tray with spaces for each of the 20 coins. *MINTAGE 7,000*"

The website has a section to ask questions about specific products. Someone asked how many boxes were being made. Here is the reply. "... there is no limit on the number of cases at this time - we will manufacture to demand." That prompted an email to my rep. He replied stating 3000 more were being made, bringing the "mintage" to 10,000.

My rep had a much more detailed explanation and I'm certain he is well informed. There will be at least 10,000 boxes made. For sure. 100%. Positively. No joke, or misunderstanding.

If you think otherwise, call your rep and ask for yourself.

My rep doesn't joke or otherwise mislead me when replying to my questions.

So basically made to demand lol, kinda makes sense actually, not really a limited mintage item anyways in my view seeing there are a few hundred thousand of each coin more or less.

The more cases they will sell, the more coins will stay at home and won't go to banks.

Mine has been sent. Since I've got one in the mail, I really wish they kept the production of these boxes at 7,000. 10,000 is better than meeting demand but still, the fewer the better. That would set aside sets with boxes from a coffee tin full of coins. Meeting the demand makes these boxes worthless. And is greedy on the RCMs part, since many were bought with the expectation that only 7,000 were available. The $30, is really a drop in the bucket for collectors but still, it's a cardboard box. I'm looking forward to actually checking it out.

I disagree with you Redzpsid. With over 200,000 of each of the coins sold, there are at least a couple thousand people who only collect these coins as a cheap, fun way to get into coin collecting, or gift giving. I'm sure "as many were bought with the expectation that only 7,000 were available" is suggesting that 'most' were bought with the intention of 'flipping'. I don't think so. I've been buying 4 of each coin since the beginning, and bought 4 boxes - with one set for me, and 3 sets for the young girls in my life (daughter and 2 nieces) who will be thrilled to have something other than a 'coffee tin' to keep them in.
I think that MTS's comment hit the nail on the head.

Cases are backordered now. Shipping resumes 01/06/16.
All my single coins have been transferred to the Lighthouse case. The rest are in a shipping box along with the cards.
Using the $2013 $20 snake coin as a place holder for the 2016 T-Rex that I passed on.

Quote: who will be thrilled to have something other than a 'coffee tin' to keep them in. I wish it would be true. Sorry to disagree....they wouldn't need the boxes and the coins as well. Coins will be deposited or given to "some guy who understand in the coins" and the boxes in the best case will be storing shoes or some girlish stuff. How many of us were interested in the collections of our parents? But I agree, that these inexpensive boxes good way to store inexpensive coins. And I would support for unlimited production of everything, meeting the demand and over. Can not see, that cardboard boxes become collectible even at 1000 units of production.

Of course it took the RCM 6 months to catch on the box bandwagon.

I bought just one box, for myself, even though I have bought my 2 nephews one of each coin except the first in the series. I have no intention of flipping a box. That was not at all my issue. Nor did I intend to imply "most" people bought the box because of the 7000 number initially given. I said "many people", including myself. Since its only $30 I won't bother sending it back, but if there ends up being 100s of 1000s of them, that's a factor in my decision to buy any others. By the time this series is over, from the looks of it, I'm sure there will be several $X for $X boxes that will be bulky, and taking up space for a high mintage, entry level series. Will we probably all wish we had kept them in a smaller box, nicely stacked together with a stack of info cards set aside nearby. It's all a matter of opinion. To each, his own.

For what ever reason just got email offer on this box with bold mintage of 7000, this is not too good way of doing business, advertise one thing and do something else, might do the Perth Mint thing of restriking popular coin, just another short sighted business practise.
