So came across this - it's worn I know and faint but seems like the dot is in the right place when I check the image on Coins and Canada. Used 1 light at a low angle to highlight the "dot". Am I imagining things? Thanks in advance. Also, would this even make VG - 8?

Looks like a dot to me. Nice find.
To grade properly, we will need a picture of the Obverse.
But by looking at the Reverse, it might make VG-8.

Thanks. Hoping it wasn't just my wishful thinking.
Here is the other side.

I don't. IMO, "spot" in wrong position.

The coin is in such rough shape nothing else really matter, unless it was a head to head coin

The dot is supposed to be very minuscule beside the 7, not infront of the date. I'm not sure if you were referring to that or the black shadow/dot beside the 7 but I don't think it will qualify as a 1947 dot either way.

Edit: And yes I agree with the grade, VG-8

I think VG8 is being quite generous. I'd say G4 details.

Looking at ha.com images, it seems like your dot is too small, too indistinguishable from other "dots" on your coin (like just below the 7), and appears to be a hair too low - seems like it should be more where the black spot is on your coin. Just my opinion. Good photos - I can zoom in pretty well to compare with other images.

To me it looks like a real dot; the size and spot-area are correct. You just need to make sure it's really a 'spot' and not a 'hole', that can be made with an awl.

I bought one a couple months ago and wasn't sure of it, so I sent it back. (I hope it really was NOT a 'dot' since I got it at a real nice price). At certain angles it looked 'true', but at others the spot disappeared.

I hope further investigation confirms it's real for you!

I can confirm that it is a dot not a hole - I've seen a few holes before and they don't look too good.

It's the right size and in the right place. I'd say you have a '47 dot in VG-8.

Very good photo,s . also zoomed in and can see
the dot. Black stuff is distracting though.
