My back plate 129 error. The back plate number was engraved on the wrong side of the back of the note, series 1981A St.Louis $1 FRN.

Me either! How would something like that occur?

Robert Azpiazu mentions the error (BP129) on his website, First City Currency. http://www.fstctycurr.com/129_info.htmlEdited to add; The pantograph operator inadvertently engraved back plate number 129 at the left instead of the normal right position.

How are most of these found? Do you all search currency straps for the current years? My assumption is that the quality assurance at the BEP would be a lot better now......

I do not search currency straps, but I do search the cash drawer where I work. I have never, and I repeat, NEVER found anything other than older notes, and star notes. Yes, the BEP does a much better job then they did in the 60's through the 90's, although they are not perfect.

So many cool error notes, thanks for sharing!
I don't own any, sadly, but I hope to pick up some someday. I'm getting close to finishing up my list of coins and bills I need for the various type sets I'm putting together, and once I have nothing left to spend my money on at the annual coin show I attend each year...

Hey, does the star add any value to this otherwise ordinary printed fold over error, normally worth around 300 dollars I guess?

 to CCF.. Star errors do command a nice premium over non-stars.. Had the fold happened before the 2nd printing instead of after, it would have received all 3 printings on the fold, and valued more.. You can check past auctions for a estimated value..

I agree with @Broken-Coin, that star errors usually add a premium, depending on how dramatic the error. Minor cutting error on star note;

I wouldn't call that an error. The misalignment really only matters if the design is actually cut off. Still, it's a good looking note.
