No need to break it.
With a lot of patience, you should be able to tease ALL of the coins out with a butter knife or similar.

By the looks of them, none of the coins appear to be in better than low EF condition; that implies that a knife is OK to use.

If the coins fit through the lot going in they have to fit coming out but, it may take awhile getting them out. If I had the bank it would drive me wacko thinking what may be in there. Your situation is like window shopping lol. Whatever you decide to do is up to you, Don't let anyone sway your thoughts.

After teasing ALL of the coins out, you retain the option of putting them ALL back in again !

That way, you can leave the option of driving others bonkers in wanting to smash, or tease them out.

Here's a picture of the slot.(with my chips out of the rim :) ) I may try slowly trying to get more dimes out to get more room, but seriously, trying to position anything else is a fleeting task. They are packed pretty tight in there.

Someone said the coins look EF. That is probably true for most of the older coins, but the poctures don't do some of the 30's coins justice. The early jeffersons and washingtons look brand new. The glass takes some luster off the pics.

If you cannot fish any more out, I'd crack it open. heck I don't have patience I would have broken it open asap. I would put a towel around it and smash it with a hammer and enjoy the rewards inside.

Seeing how the seam is designed, you could have it cut in have and fused back together.

Anyhow, your ultimate descision should be whichever you will not regret (or will regret less).

What about using something like a zip tie? Perhaps some coins could be snared with that.

Would the design allow some of the coins to be worked out just by holding it upside down and moving it around or shaking it?
I'm very curious as to what's inside, but I wouldn't break it if I were you.

The coins are too tight to just turn it up side down. Even with a knife, it's extremly difficult to get a coin on edge enough to get it to the rim of the bank. Dimes being smaller and thinner were possible to get on edge and slip through the opening.

Fill it with Bust Halves and leave it to your kids
- This is the best idea by far

If it were me, and as already suggested, a glass dremel drill bit and shave away at that opening so they fall out easily enough. this keeps the glass bank intact and you do not destroy your grandfathers heirloom. Inspect the coins, separate any winners and place the rest back. Go find a glass artist, seal the hole forever (after a few bust halves are deposited inside).

Post pics!
Rest in Peace

Ok ,I got it . get a hold of a doctors wooden tongue depressor, if its too thick rough sand it down. then apply a thin two face tape about 1 & a half inches from one end.
there you go ! If the coins come out a little sticky from the tape ,have a bowl of Acetone ready for action.
