Quote:From past experiences, RCM's awaiting stock indicating there might be extra coins available. ( still hope ) RCM's soldout indicating no more coin available ( hopeless ) lol. Yes, that's probably what it means. But to the typically person "awaiting stock" sends visions of empty shelves and until more stock arrives, no more shipments can be be processed. This just happens to a pet peeve of mine, when organizations become so inwardly focused that the onus is on the public to read corporate minds. It happens very often, most common when employees speak in acronyms and the customer doesn't have a clue what they're talking about. But last week was an example with CP. I was awaiting a trackable package to be delivered by CP and I noticed a status update indicating it was being redirected to the recipients newly changed address. That raised my eyebrows a little because I haven't recently moved so I immediately called CP helpline. The person told me that's the code CP also uses when the package is put on the wrong delivery truck. Sure enough, it arrived the next day.

Meanwhile it's not sold out because RCM has not added it to the "Approaching Sellout" list nor even updated the percentage sold. I think RCM is yanking on chains if buyers believe maximum online orders are always indicative of sell outs. Limiting the number that RCM chooses to release for sale at any one time through their online system can also be used as a "hurry, buy now" marketing tactic.

"Awaiting Stock" has been a frustration for many years discussed here many times. No one knows what it means including most of the employees at the Mint. Awaiting from where? They make the darn things, they are not waiting for someone to send them so they can be inventoried. Rhetorically, how would that even affect the consumers ability to order it? They should sell items that are truly awaiting stock but they don't. It make zero sense.
In any case, what traditionally has been important is the relative position of the listing among the new releases. Usually once a product listing has been mark 'awaiting stock' AND it has been moved to the end of the new release listings, it is effectively sold out and will not be offered again by the Mint.
That is currently the case with the 5 oz Murano, the gold Star Trek, and a couple of others. I wouldn't expect to see those coins back in stock at the Mint.

It's not a real waiting list in that you don't put your name on a list that they will use to fill orders. It seems you simply are giving them an e-mail address that will be pinged if/when the coin comes back in stock. This is what you'll see if you click on the "wait List" button. lol

I will make it easy.
1500 mintage.
25 percent of the mintage is sold from the RCMs site to MC members then to the public if any left from the 25 percent.
75 percent has been allocated for dealers etc.
Sooooo , they are only sold out of the 25 percent on their site, not the total mintage.
You will be able to buy the 75 percent from dealers on release date,at what price , who knows. Well unless they have sold all of their allotment by then lol, which looks like might happen.
Those are not exact figures obviously but you get the point.

From past experiences when ordering RCM's products. There are two types of awaiting stock 1. RCM's online system is out of stock, manual consolidation between dealers' orders, reps' orders, online orders are in process. If coins are available after consolidation, it will reflect on RCM's website. If no more coin available, soldout will appear on RCM's website. 2. RCM is trying to slow down selling quantity by utilizing awaiting stock for lower tier customers.

Agreed DarrylDarryl. It's just as likely that they wait a couple of days to ensure that they have successful credit card authorizations for all of the orders taken before declaring a sell out and/or they give customers a brief cooling off period in which to cancel orders knowing that buyers remorse is most likely in the first 24-48 hours.
Also the 75/25 split is a huge exaggeration IMO. There is no way the Mint gives away profit on 75% of the mintage of a coin. That said, a sell of a coin at the Mint is in fact a sell out. Of course that doesn't mean that the coin is not available in the secondary markets (dealers) but it is accurately called a sell out by the Mint.

CC, does RCM preauthorize the full amount of the Star Trek gold coin purchase against the buyer's credit card to be held for the entire duration of 4 months until shipping? If so, I could see where that might cause a problem for some.

If so, I could see where that might cause a problem for some. Typically, they get a pre-authorization that is in place for 5 days or so. That often comes back periodically before the coin is shipped and the credit card actually debited. That said, I don't see a current pre-authorization on my CC for the gold coin so I'm not sure what they may have done in this particular case. I'd add, if people are buying coins on credit cards and have to worry about credit limits, they might be playing with financial responsibility fire...or they are big supporters of JT's government. lol
