October 2015 CCAC recommendations for the 2017 and 2018 Native American dollars:

I wouldn't mind paying for these, but I would want to buy a special silver issue, which doesn't exist. Keep thinking I'll buy all the issues in proof and create a set, but I keep passing (in favor of other coins) due to the lack of precious metal content...and I find it infuriating that the year and e pluribus unum are on the edge.

The committee also came to decisions on reverses for the 2017 and 2018 Native American dollar. The 2017 design features Sequoyah, remembered for translating Cherokee into a written language in the early 19th century. In 2018, the reverse of the Native American dollar will celebrate Jim Thorpe, the 20th century Olympic gold medalist and professional football, baseball, and basketball player.
The recommended 2017 design bears an illustration of Sequoyah creating his syllabary, or letter system, for the Cherokee language. The recommended 2018 design features an image of Jim Thorpe preparing to play football, with a background silhouette of Chief Black Hawk, the 19th century leader of the Sauk and Fox Nation to which Thorpe belonged.
