I'm carrying this around now trying to break it in and I'm wondering what the grade would be at this point? Appreciate all opinions.

Cheers, Bill

I would put the reverse at G-3 and obverse at G-6. Overall, a G-4. If you can figure out which way it will wear the most in your pocket, maybe it can be evened out.

Resurrecting this old thread to see if anyone can see any additional wear after carrying it as pocket change for the last 4+ years.
These pictures were taken with a better camera and may make it harder to compare with the original.
Opinions please?

Cheers, Bill

Interesting comparison. I see only the very slightest evidence of additional wear, which I guess suggests that it's the back-and-forth handling of a coin in everyday commerce that speeds the wear, as opposed to just being carried in a pocket.

Or, perhaps, at this almost slick state with so little detail left, the deterioration process stretches out?

I think its pretty close to the photo's of 4 years earlier it is a lot cleaner with all the dark tone gone, I'm looking mainly around and the Kings ear area. It has been around that's for sure.

Interesting it makes a person wonder how much wear it did take to get to this state?

What is the weight of it? that might give a idea of how much wear % wise from original when it left the mint

If CNN grades it, it will be VF30-extremely rare and scarce.
ICCS G3, maybe 4. PCGS? who knows?
very interesting experiment.
Question: is it constantly with you in your pant pocket/ (and moves from pants to pants?

Newbie question here - I've seen several people, not just here, say they carry a silver coin in their pocket . What's your reasoning? Conversation piece? Emergency money? Intentionally wearing the coin down? Would just like to know why some are doing this, I keep all my stuff under lockdown....

Thanks!

It's cleaner and the steps to the Parliament are now completely gone.
Otherwise not much else has happened in four years.

That's exactly what happens.Think of it as trying to wear down a cone, great progress is made at first without removing any significant volume of material, but as you get further down you put in more and more effort for less and less effect.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

I have to agree with most everyone there's little difference in the overall wear.
The one thing that stands out is the fine hairlines in the first photos are now rubbed smooth and as others mentioned it's far cleaner.
I've carried this in my pocket change all the time, it did go missing for two months I thought I had lost it but I had just inadvertently threw it in my coin jar.
Unfortunately I never recorded the weight originally but the weight now is 22.7 grams..
I was really expecting it to show more wear after four years in my pocket
I'll continue the carry it and revisit this again in another four years.
Appreciate all the comments, thanks to everyone.

Cheers,, Bill
